Private day tour in Luberon Valley with an optional lavender extension to Plateau d’Albion

Private Luberon Day Tour — Hilltop Villages, Abbeys & Lavender (Plateau d’Albion)

Luberon is one of Provence’s most atmospheric regions: medieval villages, abbeys, ochre landscapes — and lavender that can bloom later than Valensole thanks to altitude and microclimates. This itinerary works beautifully during lavender season and remains a strong choice outside the season for authentic “real Provence”.

Lavender in Luberon & on Plateau d’Albion

The strong advantage of this route is altitude diversity — which means different bloom timing. In the lower Luberon valleys lavender may appear earlier, while on the higher Plateau d’Albion it often stays beautiful longer and can “save the season” when Valensole is already fading.

Plateau d’Albion lavender landscapes with wide horizons

    Plateau d’Albion — altitude & open space

A different Provence feeling: wide horizons, rural calm and crisp air. On clear days, Mont Ventoux often appears in the background — a legendary Tour de France landmark.

    Lavender fields on Plateau d’Albion

    Albion’s lavender scale

Many fields across one plateau — visually wider and calmer. A key bonus: Albion often looks great later than Valensole, especially toward the end of the season.

    Lavender in Luberon valleys

Luberon valley lavender — often earlier

Luberon sits lower — so some fields may bloom before Valensole (sometimes already in early–mid June). They’re often smaller, but they can be the first chance to catch lavender at the start of the season.

Exact fields change from year to year — we confirm the best “clean” and most photogenic locations closer to your tour date.

Optional: the Nesque Gorge scenic road

A wonderful alternative to Verdon — a panoramic drive and canyon viewpoints that fit naturally into the Luberon route.

    Nesque Gorge viewpoint

The Nesque Gorge is added on request and if timing allows — especially beautiful together with Plateau d’Albion.

Luberon private tour — frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about a private day tour in Luberon and the lavender extension to Plateau d’Albion.

Is there lavender in Luberon Valley itself?
Yes — there are lavender fields in Luberon, but they are usually smaller and scattered. The main advantage is timing: they can bloom earlier than Valensole. In early–mid June you can sometimes find blooming lavender here while other areas are still developing.
How is Plateau d’Albion different from Valensole?
Plateau d’Albion often blooms later than Valensole and can look beautiful when Valensole is already fading. The atmosphere is more rural and calm, with fewer crowds and a more authentic feel. That’s why combining Luberon + Albion can cover one of the widest lavender windows.
Is this tour an alternative to Verdon Gorge?
It’s a different style of day. Luberon isn’t about one massive natural landmark like Verdon. Instead, it offers villages, history, varied stops and the feeling of “living Provence”. Choose this tour if you want a rich day without extreme scale.
Is the tour with a guide or a driver?
The tour is led by a licensed professional driver with excellent local knowledge — routes, viewpoints and the best stops. They provide practical context and keep the day smooth.

A licensed professional guide is a separate service and budget in France. It can significantly increase the cost. If you want a full-day guide, we can arrange it on request, but most guests prefer the comfortable driver-led format.
Can you add a guide for 1–2 hours in a specific place?
We tested this format, but it’s often unstable: local guides may cancel last-minute, which breaks the day’s timing. That’s why we offer either a reliable driver-led format or a full-day guide — by request.
Is this tour suitable for small children?
The tour is typically 10–11 hours including driving. Around 5–6 hours can be in the car, so for children under 4–5 it may feel long. We don’t forbid traveling with kids — we simply recommend considering the duration. If you travel with a toddler, we can discuss a shorter, simplified private route.
Is the Luberon route worth it outside lavender season?
Absolutely. Luberon is beautiful year-round — abbeys, medieval villages, scenic roads and landscapes remain the main value. Outside lavender season, it becomes a calm cultural-and-scenic Provence day.
